The Sugano Laboratory at Waseda University conducts research on human-machine systems reexamined from the perspective of biomechanisms, with applications in human-coexisting robots, human-robot communication, and intelligent production systems.


AIREC (AI-driven Robot for Embrace and Care) is a general-purpose smart robot capable of autonomously performing a wide range of complex tasks. It is designed not only for customer service and household chores but also for use in welfare and medical settings.

By the year 2050, the project aims to enable AIREC to perform tasks such as:
 Business support: customer service
 Household tasks: cooking, laundry, cleaning
 Caregiving tasks: transfer assistance, body cleaning, feeding assistance
 Nursing tasks: guidance for medical tests, IV replacement
 Medical support: automated diagnostics, surgical assistance
